Pretty Inspiring: Presenting India as a Global Brand to Indians Listening to Narendra Modis famous speech...wonder if I will be as impressed as everyone else is. Politicians fill me with skepsis...I have the feeling that they say what people need/want to hear...call me cynical. But, atleast I am giving him a chance to present his case... Listening to the speech, I must admit that he is very clever and a pretty cool Global Indian Prime Minister - to mobilise Indians and Indianness for India, the way he has been doing throughout - since he came to power. He is as strong as India is...and we are a world Super-power in many aspects. This is the Ace that he plays. These are the points which I find suspect: First the venue - how appropriate is Madison Square Garden as the place where the Indian PM addresses NRIs...then the amount of cheering and its quality points to hired/paid patsies, as is usual in Indian politics...and what I find most difficult to believe is the amount of resonance he is generating while speaking pure Hindi...so many Indians speak regional languages and English but no Hindi...and if any Hindi - then barely....particularly among the NRIs in New York, where the percentage of Indians who can keep up with pure Hindi is relatively low, compared to say London. He is very media-savvy and a good orator, that I must admit. He reminds me of Obama and Angela Merkel -skilled politicians, good at representing themselves...but are these people really good for their countries?
