Pretty amazing, that something like this can be seen as routine in our day and age. 50 years ago this kind of thing would have been have been big news. As in, major network news that got major coverage. The Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3 astronauts would have all been on the edges of their chairs; knowing that some day soon, theyd be riding atop the rocket. If its true that Orion is the system destined to take us back to the moon, I will hope (perhaps against reason) that no debacles beset it: no funding snafus, no political cold feet, no technical disasters. Because I am old enough now to realize I might be dead before humans walk (again) on another world. I would like, just once, before I am gone, to see people traipsing across the surface of the moon. Maybe even Mars? In the early 1980s they said wed be there by 2000. They were wrong. We got bored, the politicians cut the funding, NASA got sclerotic, things kept proving to be far more expensive than anyone thought, and all of this worked to keep us stuck on Earth. Well, perhaps the wait (for a return to true interplanetary manned flight) will soon be over. Lord, please!
