Pretty awesome letter. People just dont dump a bucket of water on their heads they really do donate!!!! Thank you, this is huge for the ALS associations! LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The Ice Bucket Challenge makes a huge splash! Dear Lisa, We cannot express enough our gratitude to you for the success of the Ice Bucket Challenge. As of today, The ALS Association has received over $110 million in donations from people all over the globe — and that number continues to grow everyday! The amount of awareness that has been raised for ALS is absolutely incredible. For all of us fighting Lou Gehrigs disease, this feels like a dream. The hope that this phenomenon has provided for those living with ALS and their families is priceless. A perfect illustration of this was at a recent ALS Association support group in southwest Florida where an attendee asked how much the organization had received in donations. When Patricia Stanco, the Regional Care Manager for The ALS Association Florida Chapter, told the group how much had been donated, she described what she witnessed in an email to colleagues on August 28: Jaws dropped. Tears formed. The group was overwhelmed and for a distinct moment, silence. I realized I was witnessing hope. It was so powerful and I will never forget it. Your partnership with our chapter has helped to create a strong ALS community with a vast network of family and friends who care deeply about our mission. The dollars raised from the challenge will help us provide more care services in our community, expand our global ALS research program and increase our state and federal advocacy efforts. Its because of supporters like you that the Ice Bucket Challenge has become so successful. Your dedication has allowed the challenge to grow from a small grassroots sensation to the worldwide viral movement that it has become. So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your unwavering commitment. Together, we will find a cure! Sincerely, Tanner Hockensmith Executive Director The ALS Association Texas Chapter Back to Top
