Pretty cool; this was one of my favorite teachers for literature classes at South Miami Jr High. I actually thought she was younger than she was - not realizing she had graduated from college in the early sixties and that she had such a place in history (as seen in the video and the bio ahead)! A friend shared this bio from a book she wrote that would be fun to read: Let My American Soul Speak, A Poem Tells A Story by Mamie Pinder - This a collection of love, political and religious poems that tell the story of a Black Conservative Republican woman historical journey of societal and political changers over 50 years. Mamie Pinder was one of the first Black students admitted to study at the University of Miami when they opened their doors for the first time to Black American students in 1962. She was one for the first Black teachers hired to work in the first experimental public schools desegregation program for Miami-Dade Public School in the 60s. Mamie was the first Black Republican elected to the Republican Party of Miami-Dade REC as Corresponding Secretary in 1979. She was the first Black female Talk Radio Hostess for a radio station WMBM 1590 AM in 1952.
