Pretty much a crime to be poor anywhere in the US. I live in - TopicsExpress

Pretty much a crime to be poor anywhere in the US. I live in Michigan, and I got my special letter from the state of MI last week stating that, if I cant pay my student loan for my last 3 classes after taking a medical withdraw, they will take my social security benefits, (which already fall short of meeting the bills, thats why Im in school), and/or throw me in jail. I have Fannie Mae helping me, so I am hoping not to go to jail, but if they take my SS benefits, I stand to lose my home. Fannie Mae was going to try to help me with school by giving me some special breaks accorded to people with disabilities, so I could handle it better, but after reading that letter, I will never go back to school. How can I when I know I am one car break-down away from losing everything and my new address becoming the county jail. Im only those three classes from an associates degree, and not much more for my journalism certificate, and I do love and miss school, but at my age, and in my condition, I couldnt survive any jail time. I feel for the young people out there trying to get a degree and carrying an extreme debt in this time when there are three people to every one job.
