Preview, Saturday October 12. Fresh from two-state success last Saturday, Kildalton Park trainer Tony McEvoy will be looking for winners in three states on Saturday, October 12. McEvoy hopes to have at least five runners at Morphettville where the Hill Smith Stakes is the feature, four at the Toorak Handicap meeting at Caulfield and two at the Spring Champion day at Randwick. “This is one of the times of year when it is important to taste success and I believe we are going into the day with some good chances,” McEvoy said. Most racing focus will be on Caulfield and McEvoy is hoping to obtain a run with import Mouro in the Group One $400,000 David Jones NBCF Toorak Handicap (1600m). “It could be tough to obtain a run as a high quality field is expected and maybe his rating might not be enough to obtain a start so I will nominate him for another race as a back up,” the trainer said. The race McEvoy has in mind is the Listed $120,000 BMW Weekend Hussler Stakes (1400m). “Mouro has trained on really well since his first up second at Caulfield and I’m hoping he can get a run in the Toorak and with luck in running should go well.” Brilliant first-up Caulfield September 21 winner Iconic will tackle the $250,000 Catanach’s Jewellers Blue Sapphire (1200m) while Assertive Eagle, a good first-up third at Gawler on September 29, will run in the Group 3 Northwood Plume Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m). Adelaide trial winner Piacenza, a two-year-old filly by Denman, will run in the Listed $120,000 Inglis Debutants Stakes (1000m). At Randwick, stayer Baby Boy, a brilliant first up third in the Balaklava Cup, will contest an $85,000 Benchmark 85 Handicap over 2000m. Tikitour will resume from a spell in an $85,000 Three-Year-Old Benchmark 75 over 1400 metres. The gelding hasn’t raced since finishing second in the Oaklands Plate (1600m) at Morphettville on May 4. McEvoy has brought three-year-old filly Bergeron back to Angaston from Sydney to run in the Listed $80,000 Hill Smith Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on Saturday. A daughter of Dane Shadow, Bergeron broke through for her maiden win at Nowra over 1800 metres on September 16 at her last start. Lightly raced three-year-old Pit Boss will run at Morphettville in a $35,000 Benchmark 72 over 1200 metres at his first run since July 13 when he was successful over 1400 metres at Morphettville Parks. Promising gallopers Swipeline and Endless Shadow will run in a $35,000 0-86 Handicap over 1200 metres. Swipeline goes in as a last start winner over 1200 metres on September 21 when he led throughout to score impressively. Endless Shadow, placed at her last four runs for the Kildalton Park stable is a last start third over 1550 metres at Morphettville Park on July 20. Consistent Little Miss Bourke will be nominated for the $30,000 0-78 Mares Handicap (1500m). McEvoy said he was also looking at the Listed $80,000 Carlton Draught Murray Bridge Gold Cup (1600m) on October 16 as another option for Little Miss Bourke.
