Priesthood of the Believer, Chapter 5, Part 2: The attraction of Tyranny When one looks at how easily Christians get sucked into the Babylonian way of doing church, one has to ask oneself, what is the attraction of the tyranny. What is it that makes people want to even follow man? Why do people stay in unproductive (at best) relationships. What is the reward? Whats the payoff? As we discovered earlier, thinking for oneself is hard work. The default setting is to let someone else do our thinking for us. For most people physical pain and suffering is preferable to intellectual and spiritual freedom. I often think of the children of Israel wandering around the desert for 40 years. Doesnt it seem strange that NOBODY in the entire group just got fed up and just broken rank and headed out on their own...regardless of the dangers? Sure it would have been risky...odds are they would have encountered some scary people out there, but certainly preferable to hanging out with a bunch of whiners. Was there no sense of adventure to be found in the million or so plus (not counting the women) in the entire group? Where was the Give me liberty or give me death mentality? Evidently there was none. Nothing much has changed since then. The most inspiring verse in all of Scripture, at least for me, comes from the book of Esther. If I perish I perish. What unbelievable faith! And what a contrast to our 501c3 obsessed Babylonian church.
