Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi stressed on Friday that he would take “difficult” decisions for resolving the problems with the Kurdistan Regional Government, calling on the Regional government of a similar position and take similar decisions. Al-Abadi said in a press statement after meeting with members of the political bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in Sulaimaniyah: “We are keen to defend the rights of the Iraqi people everywhere, both in Sulaimaniyah or Basra or Anbar or Dohuk or Erbil or Najaf or Karbala., and I am, as a Prime Minister, responsible for every citizen in this country. He added: “I am very keen to take fundamental and difficult decisions, and I ask also that the Regional government to take tough decisions for the sake of resolving the problems, including the agreement on oil, for the benefit of the Iraqi people as a whole and including the sons of the Kurdish people. The Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi arrived on Friday to Sulaymaniyah and visited former President Jalal Talabani, to check on his health, after that Abadi met with members of the political bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and the meeting included Mrs. Hero Ibrahim Ahmed, Kusrat Rasool, Omar Fattah, Imad Ahmed and Mullah Bakhtiar, and a number of officials of the Patriotic Union. The meeting dealt with, according to the website of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the current situation and developments on the Iraqi arena and region and counter-terrorism and other issues of common interest.
