Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the government will take action against the public servants who met with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia last night violating service rules. “The law will take its own course,” said the premier at a press conference at her Gono Bhaban residence. She questioned as to why they met so late at night and so quietly which Hasina said could raise different questions in public minds. Several public officers, serving as officers on special duty (OSD) for years, held a meeting with Khaleda at her Gulshan office in violation of Government Servants (Conduct) Rules. Referring to the country’s foreign policy that friendship to all, malice to none, the PM said, “Bangladesh as an independent country could not depend on any single country.” The premier said this while replying to a query about a media report that the relation with the US may deteriorate. The premier was addressing the press conference to brief the media about the outcomes of her recent Malaysia visit and joining the Saarc Summit in Nepal. The briefing started at her official residence Gono Bhaban around 4:00pm and continued for over an hour. The PM stressed the need for exporting manpower through proper way so that they do not fall in trouble abroad. She criticised the Transparency International (TI) for its recent report which showed the corruption rate in Bangladesh is increasing.
