Primitive Canoe Trip, Days Six and Seven Well, it is finally - TopicsExpress

Primitive Canoe Trip, Days Six and Seven Well, it is finally over. Seven full days on the water and I would say an epic trip. We traveled around sixty miles, portaged a total of four miles, lived off of the land and water as much as possible, ran rapids and saw miles and miles of wilderness area filled with game. At 63 years of age, it was a rite of passage. I felt stronger, more energized on the last day than on the first. Monday was our last day on the water and it was challenging. The weather was cold, breezy and damp. We covered 20 miles or so and arrived at our final destination six miles or so above a town called Jacobson. Our last camp required us to portage up a hill to a high bank with a great vantage of the Mississippi. We enjoyed a fine camp fire and a good meal of wild rice, bannock, bacon, etc. The complete story of this journey will be in one of the spring issues of Muzzleloader magazine. I think it will be an interesting one. If you do not receive Muzzleloader at this time, let me encourage you to do so. There are many fine authors that contribute to it every issue with a wide variety of subjects and it is in color. The contact information is available on line. I am so thankful I took this trip with my other two good friends, John Hayes and Gene Shadley. History came alive for us and I will never forget it.
