Prince - Purple Rain (1984) Tracklist: 1. Lets Go Crazy (5/5) (an amazing blend of funk and rock, and one of the best intros to any album ever... sets the tone off just right, nothing more needs to be said) 2. Take Me With U (3.5/5) (probably the only thing that comes close to being filler on this album. its a catchy little jam but it pales in comparison to the classics that are on here, and it seems like its only on this album so Apollonia can be heard on it) 3. The Beautiful Ones (4/5) (one of two ballads on this album, this song is smooth at first, but it really picks up at the DO YOU WANT HIM??? CUZ I WANT YOU!! part) 4. Computer Blue (4.5/5) (holy mother of god this song is funky... only reason why this isnt a 5/5 is because after hearing the full version online I have to say that blows the album version out of the water. Shame it had to be shortened to put Take Me With U on here.) 5. Darling Nikki (4.5/5) (another hella groovy song with lyrics that would put half of todays songs out to shame, haha... entertaining but seriously NSFW) 6. When Doves Cry (4.5/5) (one of the more poppy songs on the album, and its biggest hit, I kinda find this song a bit overrated. I like it a lot, dont get me wrong, Im just sayin) 7. I Would Die 4 U (5/5) (extremely infectious and easy to dance to... nothing more can be said.) 8. Baby Im a Star (5/5) (The riffs, Princes vocals, and Dr. Finks keyboard solo at the end make this a bonafide funk JAM.) 9. Purple Rain (5/5) (The other ballad on this album... and if I do say so myself, it is the BEST song on here and possibly my favorite song of all time. The lyrics, vocals and instrumentation (especially that guitar solo... LAWWWWD) are all on point here. The song is almost 9 minutes long but it never feels overblown. Thats what is so great about this song.) Overall: This is a great album to listen to if youre just getting into Prince and/or 80s music in general. During this era it was pretty much him and Michael Jackson ruling the music world, but which is better? This or Thriller? Ill review that next and let you guys know how I feel. Album score: 4.6/5
