Prince Ranariddh to Return to FUNCINPEC Party AKP Phnom Penh, January 02, 2015 – Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh, former President of the FUNCINPEC Party, has announced his return to lead this royalist party. According to his letter dated Jan. 1, 2015, Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh, who currently is the Supreme Privy Advisory Council to His Majesty the King of Cambodia, agreed to return as President of FUNCINPEC at the request of his half-sister Samdech Preah Reach Botrei Norodom Arun Rasmey, the party’s current President, and H.E. Nhek Bun Chhay, the party’s Secretary General. The official nomination of Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh as the President of FUNCINPEC will be held at the party’s congress in the future, said a joint letter of Samdech Preah Reach Botrei Norodom Arun Rasmey and H.E. Nhek Bun Chhay also dated Thursday. In March 2014, Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh announced his return to politics by creating a new royalist party called the Community of Royalist People Party. Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh was a former co-prime minister and an ex-president of the National Assembly. He announced to quit the political scene in 2008. He re-entered the politics in 2010 by forming a political party under his own name, Norodom Ranariddh Party, and then he quit the politics once again in 2012.
