Prince of Darkness (1987) The idea of combining theoretical physics and theology came from the mind of John Carpenter while reading on quantum mechanics and atomic theory, and turned the idea into Prince of Darkness (1987). Many of Carpenter’s trademark themes are put to use, such as a group of characters under siege, an ancient evil that can be contained but cannot be killed and, as would be seen in They Live (1988), the utilization of society’s discarded, marginalized members as empty vessels whose humanity has been stripped away, and readily exploited by those with inhuman agendas. A research team finds a mysterious cylinder in a deserted church. If opened, it could mean the end of the world.
