We are thankful for the outpouring of love and support and apologize for any confusion surrounding the anticipated performance tonight, reads the statement sent to Billboard from Schure Media Group. Our technical crew is set up in Toronto to rehearse lighting and sound for possible future performances. As Live Nation and Massey Hall announced earlier today, there is not a scheduled performance tonight; there was never confirmation of a show. We love and thank our fans in Toronto. To all those who lined up and travelled in to the city for tickets, we hope to see you soon and are looking forward to bringing our show to Toronto in the future. On Monday night, in the early morning hours, 3RDEYEGIRL had tweeted 4th day of November, we need a purple high: OTNOROT [Toronto spelled backwards] CALLING… A page for a Prince show on Nov. 4 had shown up on the Ticketmaster website, and fans saw furniture and white flowers pass through the venue doors Tuesday. Massey Hall even put out barricades on the sidewalk to keep fans in an orderly line. A few people, likely from the crew, sent photos of the 3RDEYEGIRL drum kit set up on the stage, which circulated on social media. But no confirmation was ever given. Some fans lined up for 12 hours, with no one in authority telling them they were wasting their time despite all the media coverage, social media and email enquiries. Finally, Live Nation tweeted, Sorry, Prince will not be performing tonight or tomorrow night. The crowd was told to go home at 3:30 p.m., but some still stuck around until 6 hoping the box office would open. It didnt.
