Principal fired for writing criminal on transfer certificate NAGPUR: Principal of a city school where a 14 year-old was called criminal on his transfer certificate (TC) has been fired by the schools management. TOI was the first to report on December 7 that Kashmir Vidya Mandir (KVM) located at Vinoba Bhave Nagar issued a TC to its Std VII student with a remark saying he is involved in criminal activities. The education department took note of TOIs report the same day and started an inquiry. To save face, KVM management suspended principal Nutan Jangam and conducted an internal probe. The suspension letter issued by KVM, a copy of which is with TOI, clearly mentions the management is taking the action after the news was published in a newspaper. Jangam was finally fired from her job on January 24. She however could be not be reached for comments and the management refused to speak with the media stating that they have told everything to the education department. The student, whose name is being withheld as he is a minor, has been readmitted to another branch of KVM. The TC was issued on May 19 last year and the reason for issuance has been mentioned as as per parents request. The student studied at KVM from 2008-2012 and had passed Std VII when this TC was issued. Education departments inquiry report states that KVM management acted swiftly against the principal and has also readmitted the student. The student has been admitted to Std VIII by KVM management and it is now clear that the student has not fallen a year behind, the report mentioned. Shahid Sharif, chairman of NGO RTE Action Committee, however feels that the management too needs to be penalized. There is absolutely no justification for a school writing the word criminal on a childs TC and the management too is responsible. We have heard that the child did get involved in some anti-social activities but he is merely an accused, not a convict. But that does not mean that the child does not deserve a second chance. Also being a minor he will be dealt with under the juvenile law system and the schools job is also to rehabilitate the kid. It is extremely sad when the management takes up such a drastic step we will be writing again to the education officials to take action against management, said Sharif. His NGO was approached by a family friend of the child after he was illegally rusticated from the school. timesofindia.indiatimes/city/nagpur/Principal-fired-for-writing-criminal-on-transfer-certificate/articleshow/29685208.cms
