Principals Blog Hello, again! Last week saw KG2 move into their new home and I’m delighted to say that staff, children and parents all seem very happy with it. The spacious classrooms and the lovely shaded porch are just what we wanted. Now all of our KG children can easily access their garden area, which they will enjoy more and more now that the weather is slowly cooling down. On Tuesday, we had a Mad Science event for Years 4-8. The students were suitably baffled by their inability to burst a balloon on a bed of nails and impressed by the rainbow flame produced by the combustion of methanol. Thanks to Ms Lathika Vinod for organizing the visit which was great fun as well as informative and interesting. Wednesday saw our first Parent Information Evening, for the High School parents. After a brief introduction from me, parents rotated around the English, Maths and Science rooms to find out what their children will be learning this term. It was extremely encouraging to hear such positive comments from the mums and dads, and to see the partnerships that are already developing between School and home. We are committed to working with parents at MNS-B and this was a real demonstration of that. Teachers are privileged in being able to share their enthusiasms with young people. On Monday I was lucky enough to take our first sailing group to the Yacht Club where they had a brilliant first session with the instructors. All of the young people managed to sail to the target point and back and nobody capsized! The week ahead starts on Sunday with vaccinations for some of the High School students, which is always interesting! On Tuesday we have the Parents’ Information Evening for the Early Years classes, KG and Foundation. The Primary event, for Years 1-5, is on Wednesday and both begin at 1730. Ms Barbara Beattie has prepared the list of After School Activities and I hope that this will go home by Monday. When I’m writing this blog it’s easy to concentrate on special events, but of course what really matters is the learning that takes place in every classroom every day. I spend a lot of my time popping in to lessons and I’m very pleased with the way students and their teachers have got down to work. I’ve had a few comments from parents that homework has been too hard and I’ve passed these on, but I’m glad that teachers are showing high expectations and are challenging the students to improve. The right balance between support and challenge helps every student make good progress.
