Principle: Right of hot pursuit – A coastal state cannot be expected to allow a foreign ship evade its jurisdiction by escaping into the high seas. Hot pursuit of a foreign ship may be undertaken when the competent authorities of the state have good reason to believe that the ship has violated the laws and regulations of the State. Explanation: Hot pursuit cannot be taken into the territorial waters of another state. It is recognized only when continuous pursuit takes place beginning from within the territorial waters of the pursuing country. Please explain the Explanation part of principle.
