Prior to owning a business, I felt pretty entitled as a consumer of employment as well as goods and services. Then, while working as an electrician, I used my earnings to purchase a business, purchase stock, and lease a storefront. Suddenly I had customers who viewed me as their entitlement. If I hired someone it was their right to have a job and it became my responsibility to provide one in the minds of some simply because I had the means. I also became responsible for the products that other people wanted and any margin over cost of goods and sometimes less was deemed a rip off. One of the services I offered was sailing instruction that involved a skill test and because people paid for the lessons, they felt entitled to pass the test and any failure in this became my responsibility. It was quite an education and I am not sure how I feel about Marketplace.
