Prisoner kills fellow inmate By REBECCA MUSHOTA- A MAN serving a 20 months prison sentence in Nchelenge State Prison has died after he was assaulted by another inmate. Chisoko Mupenda, who is from Kapandila Village in Chief Puta’s area in Chiengi, was allegedly assaulted by a remandee, Rodgers Chisala on Saturday in Chiengi State Prison and he died later that day. Luapula Province Police Commissioner Malcolm Mulenga said yesterday that Mupenda was serving a 20-month sentence for the offences of illegal entry in a game park, being in possession of a firearm and being found in possession of Government trophy. “The deceased was assaulted by Rodgers Chisala because he used a small plastic container as a toilet instead of using a big plastic container,” Mr Mulenga said. He said Mupenda reported the matter to the authorities at 07:45 hours on Saturday immediately after Chisala allegedly assaulted him and the authorities took him to a hospital in Nchelenge where he died at 12:00 hours. Mupenda’s body is in a mortuary awaiting postmortem and a docket of murder has been opened against Chisala. Meanwhile Mr Mulenga said a man only known as Chola of Mulule Village in Chief Mununga’s area in Nchelenge died on Saturday, July 12, this year from injuries he sustained when he was assaulted six days earlier. He said Chola was allegedly assaulted by a 25-year-old James Chola at Mulule Village. Mr Mulenga said the suspect was arrested for murder and the deceased’s body is in a mortuary awaiting postmortem.
