Prisoners - very good movie, cant say I enjoyed it as its very heavy going at times but its a very solid piece of cinema - almost feels like an European at times. Mixed feelings about casting and acting. Jake Gyllenhaal was surprisingly good, didnt quite gel with me in the first few scenes but he did a pretty good job in his role. Not so sure about W̶o̶l̶v̶e̶r̶i̶n̶e̶, I mean Hugh Jackman. Im sure he enjoyed playing a straight role, not a comic book character, and sure had physical presence needed for the role but wasnt greatly convincing (for me anyway). Other characters were just background pieces. I went to see it with no great expectations but came out quite impressed. Just simple and effective movie making without special effects or stunts. I really liked how it was shot, very basic, long takes, almost austere - just perfect for a movie like that. Very solid four stars out of five.
