Privatisation Stigma Haunts Hichilema The post privatization stigma has continued to haunt United Party for National Development leader Hakainde Hichilema with Works and Supply Minister Yamfwa Mukanga asking the latter to apologize to the people of Luanshya for the alleged misery his role played in impacting the lives of inhabitants of the mining town. Mukanga said that Hichilema, as the lead negotiator in the privatization of the Luanshya mine that was run down by RAMCOZ, had failed the people of Zambia and needed to apologize before he could seek public office. He said some miners may have died without getting their benefits after the massive retrenchments that followed the post privatization period. “When Luanshya mine was being sold during the privatization era, Hakainde was the lead negotiator appointed by government. I am sure some miners died without getting their benefits,” he said. “So before asking for votes from the people of Luanshya, Hakainde should apologize to the people of Luanshya.” Hichilema has repeatedly been bombarded with the privatization question but has insisted his role was only that of a professional rendering his services on contract. zambiareports/2015/01/05/privatisation-stigma-haunts-hichilema/
