Pro Tip: How to successfully promote YouTube videos in the Facebook feed: A month ago I tried an experiment in which I posted a link to a new YT video in FB and then also posted a regular post and instead mentioned the video in the comments. The results were far from statistically significant, but they showed a clear trend in that I got about 4x as many comments saying i saw it in the post WITHOUT a YT link than in the one with the link. This confirms what is generally known in that Facebook first features posts with videos uploaded directly to FB, then posts with images uploaded directly to FB, then regular posts, and then posts with YT video links. Your YT video link is initially getting suppressed in your audiences feeds. So, what do you do if you want to share a YT video, and make money from the ads that run on it, and not have it suppressed initially? Heres what Ive found as a good tactic: 1) take a large size image snapshot/screengrab of the video that is catchy or matches the videos thumbnail 2) the FIRST thing you do to a new FB post is upload that image 3) take the youtube URL for the video and disguise it through a URL shortener, like bitly. Bonus points for shortening a playlist that starts with that video, because youll increase watchtime on your YT channel as your next video in the playlist will automatically start after the first one ends. 4) write the text in your FB post and paste in the shortened URL for the video or playlist. You have to upload the photo first so it registers as a photo. You cant post the link first cause FB will recognize it as a YT video, even through bitly! 5) post it! Now comes the second phase: how the promotion of your post can grow over time. FB increases viewability as interaction increases; as more interaction occurs with the post, the more exposure it will get. Shares are most influential, so make sure to share it to someone after posting. Comments are second, and then likes third. Regarding making money on your YT video, the bitly URL shortener trick ensures you earn as much as you can because it launches a new window to show the video on a YouTube watchpage. Getting a viewer to click on a link that launches the youtube player in a new window is the best way to earn money because YT can serve all available ad formats on its own watchpage. If the video appears within the FB feed (an embedded view) then there is no ability to serve companion display ads which are often the #1 or #2 top contributing ad format despite their low CPM. And, the frequency of the higher-CPM instream ads are severely limited if not eliminated in embedded viewers. Does this work for you? Have you found other hacks or tips? Please share!!!
