What is the level of public awareness about Ebola? Must we wait till the enemy is at the door before preparing for battle? The overall approach to the threat has been more reactive than proactive, yet EVD is probably the most deadly infectious disease on the planet today. With the persistent epidemic incursions into the west African sub region lately, the threat of possible outbreak in neighboring countries including Nigeria was never in doubt. This development ought to have been high level priority several months back. Theoretically, anyone who is ill, and with a travel history of traveling to or from Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea, is suspect How many people know that in the early stages, Ebola presents like malaria fever or a respiratory infection? Currently there is a suspected case in Lagos. As it has become the trend , Lagos is on top of the situation. One wonders what capacity of detection/containment other states with borders with to the West African corridor wield?Nigerians are concerned, that concern is directed to holding government accountable on this matter. An Ebola outbreak here now or at any time would be catastrophic. Already there is anxiety over the threat. Dealing with this anxiety is as crucial as dealing with the Ebola virus.
