Probably been asked on here before, so apologies in advance, but only been on for a few weeks. What was the first definitive Northern Soul track you ever heard? Mine was Dean Parrish - Im On My Way, played at the end of under 16s discos at The Samson & Hercules nightclub in Norwich around 1979/80. I can recall being drawn to the sound and rhythm but at the time didnt know it was a genre. I already liked a lot of Motown, having been drawn in by The Beats cover of Tears of A Clown and various hits Id heard on Kenny Everetts Radio 1 show, so knew it had the same feel. Made sense I assume to then succumb to the NS scene :)
