Probably the best known Archeological Sculpture in Mexico is the Sun Stone or as its called The Aztec Calendar Stone , You see it depicted everywhere from magazines to T Shirts. It was discovered in 1790 during construction work at Mexicos Main Plaza, For many years it was displayed at the Corner of the Zocalo. The center is a face with a protruding Obsidian knife signifying its thirst for blood. The face is disfigured because American soldiers bivouaced in the Park during the Mexican American War , out of boredom would shoot at it to see who could hit closest to the center. It is a Calendar comprised of 13 months of 20 days each and 5 ritual days.
