Probably the most touching moment of the entire con was seeing this lovely lady posing for photos with a little girl who was maybe four years old. I know many of my family and friends dont understand the appeal of costuming, but THIS is what its all about. When a little kid gets to meet Tinkerbell or a Storm Trooper or Spiderman and you can make them smile... THAT is fandom. When a grown man runs up to my wife in her April ONeil costume and hugs her because he loves Ninja Turtles SO MUCH... THAT is fandom. When you make a friend who loves the same obscure 80s anime that you do, and just the fact that you recognized their costume makes their day... THAT is fandom. Fandom means family. One big, nerdy family.
