Processed foods make up approximately 70% of calories in the American diet. Yet, they are the driving forces of food addiction, poor nutrition, and chronic disease. These pseudofoods are void of nutrients and made out of highly refined sugars, flours, oils, added chemicals, preservatives, GMO-ingredients, artificial sweeteners/flavors/colors, shelf stabilizers, thickeners, and more to equal a toxic chemical cocktail end product. *Here are 5 guidelines to shop carefully: 1. Only read the ingredient list on the label. Everything else is paid for, misleading, and/or false. 2. Make sure you recognize and can pronounce all the ingredients. 3. Keep the number of total ingredients to a minimum, ideally less than 5. 4. Fill your cart with whole plant foods, mostly fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices, and one ingredient items (beans, lentils, whole grains, nuts, seeds, etc.). 5. Always shop with and stick to a list to avoid impulse purchases, overspending, and ensure you bring home what you intended to. *Resources: --->My Veria Dos and Donts for Food Shopping: veria/video/labels-lists-and-hunger-a-few-dos-donts-for-food-shopping/ --->NutritionFacts.org Processed foods: nutritionfacts.org/topics/processed-foods/ --->How the Food Industry Manipulates Taste Buds: n.pr/1feh9ey --->Beating Sugar Addiction: plantbaseddietitian/beating-sugar-addiction/ --->Redefining Normal: plantbaseddietitian/redefining-normal/ --->5 Ways to Eat Whole Food, Plant-Based: plantbaseddietitian/eating-whole-food-plant-based/
