Prof. Dr. Deepak Bhattarai - Presidential Candidate for NEA Elections 2070 An Introduction: Prof. Deepak Bhattarai, Ph. D. Born in March 1951, Prof. Bhattarai did his BE in Civil Engineering from REC Rourkela, India in 1975, M. Sc. in Construction Management from Loughborough University, UK in 1990 and Ph. D. from Tribhuban University in 2005. He started his career at NCCN as construction Engineer and joined Institute Of Engineering in 1980 as a Lecturer. He is credited to have started first Engineering College in the private initiative and also starting M. Sc. programs in Construction Management and Natural Resource Management in the country. Prof. Bhattarai led teams to establish Nepal Medical College at Attarkhel, Jorpati; Nepal Tourism and Hotel Management College at Pokhara and Nepal College of Information Technology at Balkumari. He also is the founder member of KIST medical college at Lalitpur. He is the founder principal of Nepal Engineering College, founder member of Nepal Medical College, founder member of Nepal College of Information Technology and founder member and advisor of Nepal College of Tourism and Hotel Management. Prof. Bhattarai has held positions as below: 1. Branch Manager of NCCN, Bhairawa Branch 2. Team leader in several infrastructure development projects 3. Member of the board of directors of Nepal Electricity Authority 4. Vice president of Nepal Council of Arbitration (NEPCA) 5. President of Nepal Engineer’s Association – Pokhara Chapter 6. Team leader to negotiate Duhabi Multifuel Plant with Wartsila Diesels in Finland 7. Member of ministerial delegation to negotiate Arun III hydroelectric project with World Bank, Washington DC. 8. Chairman of Kanti Children’s Hospital DECORATION/AWARDS: 1987 Decorated by the then His Majesty the King Birendra with Prabala Gorkha Dakshin Bahoo for outstanding work at Pokhara. 1999 30th ATSUMI Award awarded by IFWAPCA, Manila. 2005 RONAST Science and Technology Academy Award, Nepal. 2011 Education Award by Ministry of Education, Nepal 2011 Entrepreneurship Award by Nepal Engineers’ Association, Nepal 2013 Nepal Vidya Bhushan by the President of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.
