Prof. Dr. Kalidas Dattatraya Chavan MBBS, MD (Forensic Medicine) AN APPEAL To vote for Dr. Kalidas Dattatraya Chavan in the elections for Member, Medical Council of India (MCI) Dear doctors, Elections are being held for the reconstitution of the MCI. As per the MCI act, one member has to be elected from amongst all the members registered with medical council from each state. I, Dr. Kalidas Dattatraya Chavan wish to contest the election for the said post from the state of Maharashtra. You are one of the most valuable voters, who can make all the difference and can be instrumental in electing me to MCI. I have completed my MBBS from Dr. BAMU University, Aurangabad in the year 1993 and MD Forensic Medicine from same university in the year 1997. Since then I have worked in Government Medical College, Aurangabad, SRTR Medical College Ambajogai and GMC Latur in various capacities. Since year 2008, I am holding the charge of Professor, Forensic Medicine and Medical Jurisprudence at Rural Medical College, Loni. Since my school and college days I have been actively involved in social activities through the medium of NSS and then as an active member of the student association and MARD. While developing my academic and professional career, I have been actively involved in the various constructive activities in the field of my expertise, with a passion to bring about a definite and visible change in the field of medical jurisprudence which involves the various acts and rules regulating the medical profession, the recent court judgements relevant to the medical profession, the issues of rising litigation against doctors and violent attacks on hospitals etc. I, being an expert in Forensic Medicine and Medical jurisprudence closely following the changing trends in these aspects and have extensively researched on them. I am a recognized guide for MD and Ph. D. students. I have been continuously trying to utilize the available instruments of law and ethics as per the MCI act and also the law of the land, for the betterment of medical profession as a whole. It was possible for me to perform, to my level best, because of the various positions that I held during the past decade and a half. Some of these include: • General Secretary, Medicolegal Association of Maharashtra (MLAM) • Member, Board of studies, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik • Chairman, Board of studies, PIMS (DU), Loni • Member of Editorial Board of many National and International journals. • Member, Board of studies, Rajeev Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore. Making full utilization of the opportunity I got by way of these positions I have conducted various activities for spreading awareness about the medicolegal issues amongst the general practitioners and medical officers. Till date I have been at the forefront in organizing and conducting: • Yearly CMEs and workshops for the medical officers working in Government sector • Conferences for spreading awareness amongst the police officers and judiciary about the issues concerning doctors • Active help and support to various medical organizations and individuals etc However, now I sincerely feel that a time has come; when this process of implementing the available provisions of the various laws, for the betterment of the medical profession, need to be accelerated. I am committed to this cause and for this I need your support. The prevailing law amongst group of medical profession has put them under an invisible pressure. The situation is still aggravated due to lack of time and awareness to represent their genuine case before the regulatory bodies. I being a medicolegal expert shall raise these issues before regulatory bodies so that the innocent members of this fraternity will not be unnecessarily victimized. I am confident that if elected I will represent you all in the MCI, in the same manner in which till date you wanted it to be. I shall strive to bridge the existing gap between the regulating bodies and the stake holders, by advocating for a transparent, efficient, time effective and a symbiotic system. I hereby earnestly request you to cast your vote to me and oblige. I also seek your assistance in convincing your friends and colleagues to vote for me. Thanking you, Faithfully yours, Dr. Kalidas Dattatraya Chavan Mob. No. 97665 80155 e-mail:- kalidas_chavan2003@yahoo
