Prof(Dr.). Mohd Maqbool Sofi, scholar of Persian language and literature, leaves for heavenly adobe Prof.(Dr.) Mohd Maqbool Sofi, a distinguished scholar of Persian language and literature and a practicing mystic, dies after brief illness at his ancestral village Sofigund, Tral. He was 65. A noted scholar, and authority on Maulana Jalal- ud- Din Rumi, Prof. Sofi taught Persian language and literature in various colleges of the state for almost 3 decades before become assuming the charges as principal Govt. Degree College Bijbehara. Devoid of modern day hypocrisies he was a treasured human being, whose humanity and profound integrity was respected by all who knew him. His plain mannerism, philanthropic mission and simple living made him popular among the college fraternity. Prof. Sofi has many scholarly papers to his credit. A man of impeccable integrity and great decency, he was a meticulous and impressively scholar of Classical Persian literature whose professional interests spanned teaching the language at rudimentary level to the theory and criticism. Separate condolence meetings were held at Govt. Degree College Pampore,GDC Tral and Bijbehara college to commemorate the services rendered by the eminent scholar. He was a cherished colleague a genuine and great scholar, a man of integrity, and one of the most remarkable, plain and unpretentious individuals anyone could hope to meet. May Allah grant his soul the upper reals of heaven and enough courage to the bereaved to bear this shock. Amen
