Prof Njabulo S Ndebele in City Press: I cannot see any danger that SA will collapse in the face of the ANCs loss of power now or at some point in future. On the contrary, there are many signs that the decline in state capability under continuing ANC political leadership constitutes a serious threat to the country. The one serious threat to SA is the perceptions of those who stand to lose if the ANC were to lose an election. They will lose unrestricted access to state resources. To avert the threat of pos-election litigation of their misdeeds, they might consolidate themselves into a coercive force right at the centre of the state, giving rise once again to totalitarianism in South Africa.
