Prof. Surya Prasad Subedi in his keynote address today re-enforce his call for key reforms in order for Cambodia to have a trust worthy electoral frameworks, policies and trully independent election management bodies, civil servants, media, police and military forces that serve the country not any particular party or individuals. People say justice must be done. This is not good enough. Justice must be seen to be done, he said. He recalled his experience at Mekong University where a group of student tried to criticise and shame him when he was doing a lecture there. Then he started to receive messages of support from many Cambodians from over the world. He was touched emotionally. However, he said that does not mean Cambodian people love him as who he is or as Surya Sebedi, but that means Cambodian people love their country so much. Cambodia is also blessed to have a vibrant civil society led by brave and competent men and women, he added. I was very humbled by his remark. He has earned our respect not from his title as Special Rapporteur of the United Nations but by his heart and conviction to serve humanity. He is a good friend and good role model. Yes, we love our country so much, Prof. Surya Subedi. Thank you for working very hard for humanity, even when you are not physically very well. We wish you all the best.
