Prof Victor Peretomode: A Round Peg In A Round Hole MEETING him - TopicsExpress

Prof Victor Peretomode: A Round Peg In A Round Hole MEETING him for the first time, you’ll notice that he is an easy going personality; not given to too much talking. But, underneath this first observation is a man full of strength for work. A workaholic of sort, Prof Victor Peretomode, is a no nonsense person who has zero tolerance for anything associated with fraud. I met him some years back, but can’t remember exactly when. A friend of mine had an issue with her Supervisor in the course of doing her Teaching Practice in Delta State University, Abraka. The Supervisor had demanded some gratifications if she was to pass the course, so I complained to a friend – Prof Akisehinde – another Lecturer in the university who also has zero tolerance for fraud. After he had a brief discussion with Prof Peretomode, he (Peretomode) swung into action and stopped the Supervisor from carrying out his shady intention. That was the first time I met with Prof. Peretomode, and I saw the manner in which he spoke against the intention of the Supervisor. He was totally opposed to his intention, and he took steps immediately to stop it. Just to confirm that there is a reward for hard work and honesty, the Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, recently considered and approved the recommendation of the Delta State University, Abraka, Governing Council to appoint him the Vice Chancellor of the university. Before the appointment as Vice Chancellor, he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) in the university, and a pioneer Lecturer of the university, and became a Professor of Educational Administration and Higher Education in June, 1996. An academic guru with over 90 publications in national and international journals to his credit, he is an external examiner and assessor of persons for professional positions in several Nigerian Universities. To his credit, he was the pioneer Federal Commissioner, representing Delta State on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and he is the Chairman, National Implementation Committee on the Integratin of Out-of-School Children from the South-East and South-South States into the Basic Education Programme. He had served as Head of Department, Director, Institute of Education; Director, University International Centre and as Chairman and member of all important committees of a university, including member of the Delta State University Council from 2007 to 2010, and was the Provost, Delta State University, Oleh Campus, from 2007 to 2010. A peep into his sojourn in the field of education would be stating the obvious, that Governor Emmanuel Udughan has put a round peg in a round hole. He attended African Church Primary School, Forcados, and Mein Grammar School, Kiagbodo. He obtained his B.Ed. (Hons) Political Science degree from University of Benin, in June 1979, and his M.Sc. Educational Administration (May 1982), Doctor of Higher Education (2004) and Post doctoral M.A. degree in International Relations and Comparative Politics (August, 1985) from the Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma, U.S.A. He was a graduate research/teaching associate with the Graduate College, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater from 1981 to 1986. Since returning to Nigeria, he has lectured in several tertiary institutions including the former Rivers State College of Education, now the University of Education, Port Harcourt; Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt; University of Port Harcourt, former Bendel State University, (now Ambrose Alli University), Ekpoma. He has been a Visiting Professor to the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and University of Benin.
