Progress with cochlear implant, which I have had since April. During my recent evaluation and mapping, my word comprehension has measurably improved from even two months ago. Tonight I used the functionality where I can plug in my iPad and play music directly into the receiver of implant device. This functionality allows the music to be played pure without any background noise. I had an iTune library of songs that I loved to listen to-- but, since losing my hearing, I had not used it in over 4 years. Tonight I decided to give myself a birthday present and give it a try. The first song was from ABBA --I have a Dream. It is from Mama Mia, a family favorite. My kids loved the Broadway play and the entire family was hooked on ABBA straight away. Tonight I remembered why. The beautiful melody of the entire song came rushing back as the first few notes chimed into my brain. Then these lyrics resonated like never before: I have a dream, a song to sing, to help me cope with anything And my destination makes it worth the while Pushing through the darkness still another mile I believe in angels, something good in everything I see I believe in angels, when I know the time is right for me Ill cross the stream, I have a dream Ill cross the stream, I have a dream I am embarrassed to admit, Instead of celebrating the miracles of life with gratitude, I spent fleeting moments earlier today on my 53rd birthday lamenting regrets. What folly. The truth is I am extraordinarily blessed. Even when pushing through the darkness my life has been wonderful. And I have more reason now to cherish each waking moment (and every beautiful sound. Sure life can be tough. But Ill cross the stream, I have a dream. Amen. Thank friends and family for the kind birthday wishes. Love Brian youtu.be/ETNFFxe3Ru4
