Progressing Ballet Technique UK news! Callie Roberts has embarked on a series of workshops that has received brilliant feedback already from the UK. Her passion and experience will have an impact on both teachers’ and students far and wide. I’m both excited and humbled that Callie shares my dream to spread my work in these programs’ as far and wide as possible. She is now in the final stages of arranging workshops in Lyon, Munich, Frankfurt, Stockholm, Cork, Milan as well as 5 more in UK. I have included a little background on Callie, as she is far too humble to talk about her own personal journey. Callie like most little girls wanted to learn ballet. Maybe it was fate, as the Newcastle Earthquake forced our ballet school to move to the suburbs as the previous studio was destroyed in the quake. It didn’t take long for me to view through the twinkle in her eye and her toes touching the floor in exercises like “good toes naughty toes” she had long slender legs that moved with a natural grace. Always a teacher’s dream to notice these natural attributes. However without passion and drive all the talent in the world is worth nothing. In 2004 Callie was awarded the McDonald Scholarship performing an extremely accomplished Kiti’s variation. One of the most exciting evenings was watching her from the front row of the Herodes Atticus Theatre in Greece where she was awarded the silver medal. I had tears in my eyes as she moved to the front of the stage to make a special reverence looking straight at me. We always had a special connection because of Callie’s inner soul and love of this wonderful art. During 2004 Callie graduated at the Royal Ballet School in London and she recently has been promoted to First Artist with Royal Birmingham Ballet. Callie is a wonderful role model for the students and often when home on holidays dedicates some of her time to coach and motivate other students. Callie has remained humble all through her exciting journey. Her roles during the last year include includes Swan Lake (Two Swans), Concerto barocco (lead role), Cinderella (Summer), Coppélia (Prayer, Dawn), Concerto pas de deux, Carmina burana (Roast Swan), The Nutcracker (Arabian Dance), The Sleeping Beauty (White Cat), Take Five (Take Five), The Grand Tour (Theda Bara) and Faster. Callie is now giving back to students and teacher’s her special gift!
