Progressives/liberals have a concept of the world which has never and will never square with reality, but which they doggedly deem correct. They are undissuadable no matter the overwhelming evidence contradicting their preconceptions, no matter the dearth of history supporting. When people in small cars get more-seriously injured in collisions with people in large SUVs, these progressives/liberals feel that unfair, so blame the laws of physics. When high-skill-industrious people are paid more than low-skill-unmotivated people, these progressives/liberals feel that unfair, so blame the laws of economics. When black school students – who in the aggregate study half as much as whites and watch five times the tv as whites – get lower grades and have higher drop-out rates, progressives/liberals see that as proof of racial discrimination rather than the price of choices made and behaviors. When, on the other hand, blacks who are ten percent of the college-student population account for eighty percent of basketball players, progressives/liberals don’t raise an eyebrow, engage a brain cell, or so much as twitch a muscle. Progressives/liberals have their preconceived gospel, which squares with no-nil-nada-zero-zip-zilch observable evidence or rational analyses or logic, but which they know with certitude must be true. It hurts them because it is a near-always-incurable mental disorder. It hurts those they champion and seek to help even more, however, and that’s the crime and crying shame. Progressivism/liberalism has brought the deaths of millions under Stalin, tens of millions under Mao, tens of millions from falling for Rachel Carson’s baloney, mass destruction of American black families from Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society”, a hidden poisoning of our wheat and other grains from falling for the nonsense of Paul Erlich’s “Population Bomb”, the unemployment of millions of low-skilled – especially young blacks – with “unintended consequences” from minimum-wage laws (contradicting the laws of economics) and welfare programs (contradicting the laws of human nature), and on and on and on. Progressives/liberals are convinced that they can and should make decisions for others they perceive as not so enlightened. All attempts in human history at central-planning and top-down control have failed miserably and imploded. Those attempts have stood beside societies with bottom-up-decentralized-individual decision-making, simultaneously all growing and thriving. Nonetheless, the trend is toward more and more attempts at what has always failed and away from what has always worked. Doesn’t speak highly of human nature. The problem isn’t that Johnny can’t read. The problem isn’t even that Johnny can’t think. The problem now is that Johnny doesn’t know what thinking is. Johnny believes he’s thinking when he is but feeling. Emoting has replaced rationality and logic.
