Project: Citizenship - October 2015 One of the major challenge in the country. Burkina Faso, formerly, the haven of peace and stability is now growing signs of instability illustrated by the protests following the assassination of journalist Norbert Zongo in 1998, public demonstrations have been more frequent and more likely to turn violent. Most notably, the death of a student after having been beaten by police in Koudougou in February 2011 led to three months of tension across the country. To the surprise of observers, elements of the military mutinied and, at one point, forced President to hide leaving the capital. Civism has raised to be one of the major challenge and more importantly today with the reticence of the President to retire in 2015 despite 27 years on power. The overall goal of the project is to develop capacities of students in the high schools in order to initiate and implement activities promoting civic attitudes and values. Specific objectives set for the students: -making the students acquainted with the advantages of civic attitudes and behavior; -encouraging and promoting their interest for civic actions; -developing specific projects addressing civism issues in the country.
