Project Title: Following in Ancient Footsteps: The Hopewell in Ohio Dates: July 12-17 and July 19-24, 2015 Location: Columbus, Ohio Landmarks: Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, Fort Ancient Earthworks and Nature Preserve, The Newark Earthworks Program Description: The goal of the program is to increase Summer Scholars’ knowledge and understanding of the cultural heritage of American Indians by introducing them to the World Heritage nominated sites of the Hopewell culture in Ohio: the Newark Earthworks, Fort Ancient, and the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park. By visiting these internationally-significant sites in connection with scholarly discussions, Summer Scholars will gain an appreciation for the complexity of an ancient American Indian culture and gain expertise in the use and interpretation of historic sites. Application Deadline: March 2, 2015 Notification Date: March 30, 2015 Stipend Details: NEH Summer Scholars participating in this workshop will receive a stipend of $1,200. Summer Scholars will receive the stipend check at the end of the workshop. Summer Scholars will need to fill out a W-9 in advance of the workshop in order for the stipend to be processed in a timely fashion and the check to be available on the final day of the workshop.
