Project for the Weekend: Translating a Renaissance poem in Latin - TopicsExpress

Project for the Weekend: Translating a Renaissance poem in Latin by one Janus Vitalis, who was a Sicilian antiquarian and poet. worked for Leo X in Rome. wrote a cool poem on the ruins of Rome. along with translating it, I am tracing the tradition of Renaissance poems on this subject, the ruins of Rome--a picturesque subject often treated morally, as you can imagine. [Behold the ruins of greatness, etc.]. Du Bellay, a French member of la Pleiade wrote a whole series of poems on this subject. Furthermore, I want to make a catalogue of the Renaissance [and later] European paintings that depict Roman ruins, both realistic pictures of actual ruins and fantasias composed imaginatively.
