Project is not always plain sailing: The ex Ricardo wmik engine`s - TopicsExpress

Project is not always plain sailing: The ex Ricardo wmik engine`s timing belt looked perfect, yet we replaced it out of precaution. Done such job many times, so no worries.... Yet after just 1/2 hour total running time, the belt jumped a tooth. No harm done on the engine, happended during idling, yet the mistery remained: Why did it happen? It looks like while removing the engine from the wmik, someone took out the bolt that supports the injector pump at the back and the timing belt wheel on the pump started to oscillate and it frayed the new belt. Rest of the bolts were all present and tight. We just accidentally overlooked the missing bolt :-( Could have been much worse though.
