Promises and reasonable doubts After a government fails to fulfill its promises, it grows difficult for the people to trust that government again. In Myanmars 1990 general election, for example, the military regime m broke its promise to hand over power to the winner of the election, the National League for Democracy. Since then, it has become a tradition among the people of Myanmar to take whatever the government says with a grain of salt. The ruling government has pledged to implement 1,832 schemes to improve the welfare of the people. However, during the 11th Lower House parliamentary session, the Guarantees, Pledges and Undertakings Vetting Committee revealed that only the half of those plans ever came to fruition. Read more --->
