Prompted by a back-channel message from someone with The Surfrider Foundation: Mid-Atlantic, Ive extended my search to understand the evolving history or understanding of New Jersey beach nourishment. Reading the transcript of hearings from 2006, way before Katrina or Sandy, I find everyones point of view, regardless of perspective, refreshing: with one exception. In the polite nudge back-channel, I was told that Clean Ocean Action does not engage with beach nourishment issues. This is not true. Reading the Clean Ocean Zone legislative proposal (now tabled), the endorsement for this destructive process is encoded in the wording. COAs post Sandy comments include specific recommendations about types of beach remediation: thats an endorsement and a choice. But COAs ineffectual engagement on one of the fundamental intrusions against otherwise natural processes is visible here, in 2006. njleg.state.nj.us/legislativepub/pubhear/sen080406.pdf
