Proof that Heaven is Good Do you ever wonder what heaven is really like? Will it really be good? Will you really enjoy it? I’d like to make a statement, and then show where I get it: Jesus is the proof that heaven is good! Yes, Jesus. Jesus Who purchased you back from Satan. Jesus Who ransomed you from the fall. Jesus Who redeemed you from captivity to sin. Jesus Who loved you unto death. Jesus Who rose to justify you before God. Yes, that Jesus. He’s proof that Heaven is good. Where do I get that? Well it’s actually taught to us in “type” form in an Old Testament story. Notice this passage: Numbers 13:21-25 (NIV) 21 So they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo Hamath. 22 They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, lived. (Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) 23 When they reached the Valley of Eshcol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs. 24 That place was called the Valley of Eshcol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut off there. 25 At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land. This passage tells us that Joshua and Caleb brought back a “single cluster of grapes” from the Promised Land; other passages of Scripture tell us they brought back these grapes to show the Israelites that the land was fertile. The cluster of grapes prove that the Promised Land was good. The cluster of grapes, carried on a pole between 2 men, would be used to make wine. This “single cluster” (a plural of one) would be pressed, crushed, stomped upon until they “bled”, and the juice would ferment until it became the “wine that makes the heart glad” (Psalm 104.15). Even so, our Lord Jesus, placed on a pole between two men was crushed until He bled, and His death makes the heart of every believer glad. We are glad when we understand we are forgiven of all our sin, accepted in the Beloved, justified of all wrong doing, and received by God the Father. Yes, Jesus is proof that the Promised Land of Heaven is good. He Who took our place secured all of heaven for us. He is heaven! And He is good!--Mike Cleveland
