Property Crime in Gary is out of Control And the criminals know it! And this is why it’s out of control. The criminals know that the GPD has neither the resources nor the ambition to make any significant impact on curtailing the rampant property crime that is consuming the city. So as such, property crime escalates geometrically as criminals have virtually no fear of getting caught, and if the GPD did happen to stumble upon one of these criminals and happen to take them into custody, these criminals also know that there is little to fear in the way of being prosecuted. The detective bureau is so completely inundated with stacks of property crime cases that it would be impossible for them to devote the necessary time and/or resources to adequately solve a case and take it all the way to a successful prosecution. It is far, far worse than the Wild West. Reporting property crime to the GPD is an exercise in futility. If they can find the time to respond to a call, it is obvious that they have no desire to do anything beyond perfunctorily filling out the report. After that, don’t ever expect to hear a peep from them. And it is due to the apathy of the GPD and the inefficacy of the GPD to prevent property crime that it has steadily grown unchecked to become completely out of control as it is today in Gary. As far as there being a police force in place to protect the property of Gary residents: “Fuggedaboudit!”
