Property Update: Our final day will be Sunday, September - TopicsExpress

Property Update: Our final day will be Sunday, September 14. This is one of those “good news, bad news” situations. The good news: many don’t realize that Vince’s is still operating despite the previously announced closing scheduled in late April. Our original plan to close as a result of our dwindling numbers was reconsidered as we experienced a completely unexpected and unforeseen reaction as word got around about our “calling it quits.” And we thank you again for showing how much Vince’s means to you, both individually and as a community; we remain eternally grateful. Once the initial furor died down, and after the once-extended closing date passed, we determined that we would remain open until such time as the property sold. (The actual decision to sell the property was never in question—that is something that, once it was made, was not going to change.) Which bring us to the bad news: the property has indeed sold. But there is a silver lining: the escrow period will enable us to remain open until Sunday, September 14. There will be no equivocating this time, no reprieve, no extension, no “excuses” (such as if the property were to fall out of escrow); any further schedule changes would be too confusing for you, our customers, and, quite honestly, too stressful for our employees. We—you the customers and we the staff—have all been through enough, and to “cry wolf” again would simply make things worse. (There are still people who believe that the original closure was a business ploy; to these people we apologize yet again and assure you that it was never our intent to be deceptive or disingenuous. Circumstance gave us an opportunity to change our plans, and the majority of the public indicated that in fact such a change was most welcome.) Consistency has always been a hallmark of our operation, and we would like that to extend to our words and actions as well as the quality of our product. So Sunday, September 14 is “it,” our last day of operation at the Hawthorne and Skypark location. Period. The end. No “ifs,” no “ands,” no “buts.” Final. And after that, then what? We are actively scouting and checking into other locations. Ideally, we would be “up and running” before the actual closure of our current facility, but to be honest, we can’t promise that. We’ve got our hands pretty full just finishing up here, so there may be a week (or two or three) of down time. Sorry to be less than certain, but if we learned anything from our last big announcement it’s to not say anything until we’re sure . . . For those interested, some of the fixtures, decorations, equipment, etc. will be available at a public auction, to be held here at the restaurant on Tuesday, September 30. More details on that soon . . . Meanwhile, we hope to see you once (or twice!) again at our original Torrance location, and thank you again for the opportunity to have been at your service for the past 41 years. We will miss our old building, but in the end it’s the family that makes a house into a home; we’re confident that we can apply the same idea to any new location as long as you are part of our family.
