Prophecies of Jesus Part 3 There are more prophecies of Jesus - TopicsExpress

Prophecies of Jesus Part 3 There are more prophecies of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament and his coming than possible any other thing. I once thought there was 300 such prophecies, but I started investigating and found someone had found 353. Then I learned types of Christ figured into the prophecies of Jesus Christ. I spent some time hunting for types and soon it appeared there could be over 500 such prophecies on Jesus Christ and his first coming. I remind you that I have prepared this series for your encouragement and to strengthen your faith. I want your families to discover the blessings of God and that God is real and alive. In this message I want to show you the greatest types and foreshadowing of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. As children we grew to stories of Joseph and his coat of many colors. Oh how it warmed our hearts. Many have sit with color crayons putting the colors into the great coat of many color given to Jacob’s favorite son. At that time we did not realize that Joseph was a great type and foreshadowing of Jesus Christ. There is many common points of likeness between Jesus Christ and Joseph. It will take several messages just to cover Joseph’s story. As you saw last time, it only takes a few types to amount to a lot of words. If we really dig I am sure we can find many more common points with Joseph and Jesus Christ. So now let us turn again to the types of Joseph. The first thing I shall bring to your attention is that Joseph was brought into the pit. This pit is a type of hell. Jesus was put in the ground when he died and went to hell. Some believe that Jesus went in the ground and descended into paradise with the Old Testament saints, where he cast our sins into hell across the bottomless pit. If we dig into Matthew 12 we find that Jonah is a type of Christ going down to hell. For your examination I have put passages here in from the book of Jonah. The passage in Psalms is another prophecy of Jesus Christ going into the lower parts of the earth. Genesis 37:22-24 (KJV) And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again. 23 And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him; 24 And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it. Matthew 12:40 (KJV) For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whales belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Psalms 63:9 (KJV) But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth. Jonah 2:2-6 (KJV) And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice. 3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. 4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. 5 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. 6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God. Next, Joseph was sent to his brothers by his father and Jesus Christ was sent to Israel by his Father. Aren’t we glad Jesus Christ was sent for us. Genesis 37:13 (KJV) And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I. Genesis 37:18-20 (KJV) And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. 19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. 20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams. Matthew 21:37-38 (KJV) But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. 38 But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. Mark 12:6-7 (KJV) Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son. 7 But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours. Luke 20:12-15 (KJV) And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out. 13 Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him. 14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. 15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them? John 5:23 (KJV) That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. Next we find that Joseph was stripped of his cloths in much the same way that Jesus had his clothes taken from him by the governor’s soldiers. Both their nakedness was exposed. Can you image being stripped by some authority and allow the public to see you? Genesis 37:23 (KJV) And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him; Matthew 27:27-28 (KJV) Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. 28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. Genesis 37:28 (KJV) Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt. Matthew 26:15 (KJV) And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. Exodus 21:32 (KJV) If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned. Next, Joseph was put to death in the eyes of his father and family while Jesus Christ was put to death upon the cross at Calvary. Each was put to death to get them out of the way. Genesis 37:18-28 (KJV) And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. 19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. 20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams. 21 And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him. 22 And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again. 23 And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him; 24 And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it. 25 And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt. 26 And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? 27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content. 28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt. Acts 2:22-23 (KJV) Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Next Rueben tried to rescue Joseph from certain death and hell. Pilate wanted to rescue Jesus Christ from the cross and certain death. Genesis 37:26-28 (KJV) And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? 27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content. 28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt. Matthew 27:23-24 (KJV) And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. 24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. Next, Joseph and Jesus were both sent to Egypt. Many know that Egypt is a type of the world. Genesis 37:28 (KJV) Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt. Matthew 2:13-15 (KJV) And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. 14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: 15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. Next, both Joseph and Jesus Christ were made slaves. Genesis 39:1 (KJV) And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither. Philippians 2:7 (KJV) But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: Next, Joseph was with the LORD and the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. As we can see the LORD was pleased to make all prosper in the hand of Jesus Christ. Being with the LORD can make your hands prosper. I like my hands to prosper. How about your hands? Genesis 39:3 (KJV) And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. Isaiah 53:10 (KJV) Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. Next we find that God was with Joseph and so was God was with Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was God. Genesis 39:3 (KJV) And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. Genesis 39:21 (KJV) But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. Genesis 39:23 (KJV) The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper. Acts 7:9 (KJV) And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him, Acts 10:38 (KJV) How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. Luke 2:52 (KJV) And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. John 1:1-2 (KJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. John 3:2 (KJV) The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Next, we find that Joseph has been trust by the LORD and those around him. The Father trusted his Son, Jesus Christ and the Father made his hand to prosper. Genesis 39:3 (KJV) And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. John 3:35 (KJV) The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. As you can see this message is getting a little long. Yes, I have many more foreshadowing of Joseph with Jesus Christ. I am not sure how many commonalities there are between Joseph and Jesus Christ. I have found something like 50 or more commonalities between these two men. I hope you get something good from the message. The prophecies of Jesus Christ prove that God planned to send his Son before the beginning of time to die for us upon the cross of Calvary. The 39 books of the Old Testament mention the LORD Jesus Christ in almost every chapter of Old Testament, some 939 books. Glory to God for the Black Backed Book. I wish you good. I wish you to be blessed. I hope you have a nice day.
