Squash (Gourd) The fruits of the various members of the gourd family, which fall into two classifications, summer squash and winter squash. Here are some of the wonderful health benefits of both summer and winter squash. You can cook them several ways baked, boiled, grilled, roasted, and steamed. Squash is a gluten-free food so ideal for most. Health Benefits of Summer Squash 1. Nutrient dense (has Vit A, C, magnesium, fiber, folate, riboflavin, phosphorus, potassium, Vit B6, and high in manganese). 2. Healthy Heart (potassium and magnesium are good for reducing HB pressure). 3. Improved eyesight (high in beta-carotene and lutein). 4. Fights Cancer (abundant in antioxidants) 5. Controls PMS Symptoms (manganese reduces mood swings and cramps). Health Benefits of Winter Squash 1. Antioxidant support (good amount Vit C and of the antioxidant manganese) 2. Anti-Inflammatory (has omega-3s without the added calories from fat). 3. Promotes Optimal Health (potential in cancer prevention/cancer treatment). 4. He served the Prophet ﷺ with bread and soup made with gourd and dried meat. I saw the Prophet ﷺ taking the pieces of the gourd from the dish.
