Propitiation: Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; The book of Romans was probably written some time during AD 56/58 about 10 to 12 years before the death of the Apostle Paul at Rome. The Apostle had a great love for the Roman Church because he himself was a Roman citizen. Paul wrote to the Romans that Jesus was the propitiation to God for their sins. It is in the book of Romans only that he uses the word Propitiation this word is not mentioned in any of his other writings. Paul is teaching the Roman believers that Jesus Christ is the appeasement to God the Father for the sin which is an offense to God, and that the death of Jesus on the cross was payment and satisfaction to God for their offense, not for them only, but for the offenses of the whole world. The word propitiation only appears in the KJV Bible three times once in Romans 3:25, once in 1 John 2:2 and once in1 John 4:10. The Apostle Paul was the first in the Bible who ever used the word propitiation then the Apostle John used it about 17 to 25 years after the death of Paul. The book of 1 John was probably written between AD 85 to 95. The bible does not say and no one can be dogmatic in this assumption, but John probably learned it from the Apostle Paul, this assumption is based upon the fact that no one before Paul ever preached that Jesus was the propitiation to God for the sins of the whole world, and there was ample time to do so if any was so inclined to do so. Propitiation is Jesus, meeting the requirements of God the Father to remove the wrath and anger of God because of the offense that mans sin had brought about. Without the propitiation there would be no reconciliation, Jesus is the propitiation and God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself. God has been appeased. The gift of salvation is a free gift there is absolutely nothing a person can do to deserve it and it cannot be earned. The salvation of a persons soul is completely by the mercy and grace of God through the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ, the full payment was extracted from Christ on the cross, the payment was in full there was no partial payment on Christs part with you making up the difference. Some say, All you have to do is admit to God that you’re a guilty sinner and believe upon the name of Jesus for forgiveness... I say, You do not have to admit to anything to be saved, (an old proverb is catching comes before hanging). If all you do is believe upon the name of Jesus, the name of Jesus will not get the job done, (that was instructions to the nation Israel) you must place your complete faith and trust in what Jesus has done on the cross, that is, you must believe that Jesus died for your sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Cor. 15:1-4). The Grace of God has no human work in it, Eph.2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. There are those today that are trying to appease God with their own efforts, but it will never work for them for God has said, If our salvation is by works then grace is no more grace, Rom 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work .Propitiation means Gods wrath and anger has ceased and He is satisfied all has been forgiven and at rest in Christ. Amen!!
