Proposed consolidation considerations: 1) An open process involving all agencies affected in a transparent exchange of information and ideas, examining all options and addressing tangible financial, technical and operational needs before concluding with recommendations on whether consolidation would benefit a community 2) Most public safety dispatchers also perform a multitude of administrative tasks; it would be critical to identify those additional duties and account for personnel to perform those functions as part a consolidation effort 3) There is a need to address dispatch protocols, standard operating procedures, common call classes and priority levels 4) There would be a need to provide for adequate backup facility, including power supply and public communications infrastructure (radio and phone connections) in the event of service interruptions or disasters 5) Need to address personnel and staffing (displacement concerns, retiring or seniority, compensation and benefits) 6) A transition of this magnitude could take 18 months or more, supporting multiple locations while building, stocking and implementing start up of a consolidated center. PUBLIC TRUST CAN ONLY BE GAINED BY TRANSPARENCY AND RESPONSIBLE ACTIONS.
