Protect Clifton Bay Resorts World Bimini recently printed ads in the papers titled Fact vs Fiction, but they didn’t really answer the questions or clear up any facts that many people have about the development occurring. Here’s their third fact and then the real TRUTH: FACT: The jetty project has faced a wave of credible opposition from day one RWB FICTION: From Day One, the project has earned support from all corners of the Bahamian government and from everyday Bahamians. The opposition is comprised of a small group of individuals who are against progress on the island, most if not all of whom do not live on the island. TRUTH: No one is against progress on Bimini. Most importantly their OWN EIA clearly stated that a majority of Biminites did not welcome the idea of dramatically increasing visitor arrivals to the island, and were happy with Bimini’s existing tourism performance. “2/3 of Biminites Don’t Want More Visitor Arrivals” tribune242/news/2013/oct/25/23-of-biminites-dont-want-more-visitor-arrivals/ Furthermore, Bimini Blue Coalition’s petition against the pier project has SEVERAL THOUSAND signatures from Biminites and other Bahamians who care about their islands being respected. Additionally, numerous Bahamian NGO’s, businesses, and organizations have expressed serious concern about this project since its beginning, including the Bahamas National Trust, the Bahamas Diving Association, EarthCare, Save The Bays, ReEarth, the Guy Harvey Foundation, Waterkeeper Alliance and many more.
